About the Event

A free 6-week online mental health support group for Tameside  residents. Exploring how creativity and nature-connection can help  adults suffering stress, anxiety and depression***. Participants will receive a free art pack in the post.

(Please see NOTE at bottom of listing for what this ticket is actually for.)

What will I gain?

  • You will gain a toolkit of accessible, nature-based mindfulness strategies to kick-start/enhance your self-care routine.
  • Continuing to use these free resources regularly can help you to manage and improve your mental  health and increase resilience.
  • A space for you, to come as you are. For processing emotions and practicing self-care techniques.

What do I need in order to participate?

  • Just yourself, an internet connection and a Zoom account (free). You can also phone in to Zoom calls.
  • All participants will receive a free basic kit of art materials in the post for use in sessions.
  • You don't need access outdoor space for the Zoom calls. A  window can provide a vista of sky to explore, or you could connect with  a favourite potted plant, use your imagination, or let photographs help  you access a time in memory when you were in nature.

About your facilitator:

Kim  is a HCPC registered Art Therapist and nature-based mindfulness guide.  She has previously worked in primary schools, forest school early years  provision, and as a support worker with autistic children.

See website blog page for reflections on Kim's journey with stress, chronic illness and lockdown.

For further information on other groups and individual/family therapy see Events or Art Therapy pages on website menu above, or email oneheartnatureconnection@protonmail.com

What will the sessions involve?

These  sessions will be tailored to respond to the group's needs and will  evolve over the 6 week period (every Tuesday evening at 6:30pm),  including:

- Explorations and explanations of the nervous system and our stress response,

- Gentle breath-work,

- Sensory awareness meditations,

- Guided nature connection experiences,

- Creative exercises,

- Journaling.

There  will be invitations to do activities between sessions when on your daily walks or in an outdoor space you can access easily. (Or from a  window if you are housebound).

It's not about being good at art:

It's  not about creating masterpieces and it's not an art class.  The idea is  that you can use your innate creativity as a way to express yourself  and process emotions, because words are often not enough...

IF  THERE ARE NO MORE TICKETS LEFT PLEASE CONTACT  ONEHEARTNATURECONNECTION@PROTONMAIL.CO.UK TO BE ADDED TO THE WAITING  LIST. (NOT EVERYONE WHO SECURES ONE OF THESE PROVISIONAL EVENTBRITE  TICKETS WILL ACTUALLY PARCITIPATE IN THE GROUP)

Impacts of Covid on mental health:

Many  long-term mental health conditions such as stress, anxiety and  depression have been exacerbated by the pandemic. Isolation and  increased demands have left many without adequate support. Through these  short term groups the hope is that you may form local peer-support  networks that could continue after the project ends.

This project is funded by Creative Wellbeing Tameside and Action Together. It is only available for Tameside residents.

PLEASE NOTE:

Purchasing this free ticket is NOT a guarantee of a place on this group. When you purchase a ticket I will need to ensure that this group seems a good fit for you based on the registration form, and that you reside in Tameside. Thank you for your  understanding.
